Personal information
Joao’s journey as an international athlete starts in 2015 during the indoor season and in this occasion he managed to win the national championships in 800m and 1500m, leading him to be selected for the European indoor championships in the 1500m. Later that season he arrived 4th in the European U23 championships.
He was selected for the European championships also in 2016 and in 2018 where he reached the final on both the occasions.
Because of an injury that kept him far from tracks during all the 2019 season, Joao returned to races winning the nationals in the 2020 season and setting a new 1500 pb of 3.36.7, which he bettered in 2021 with 3.36.65.
Joao’s 2023 season started with a mile PB of 3.56.45 and with a second place in the nationals. In 2025, after changing the coach and working now with the legendary Stefano Baldini, Joao took the next step: he improved his PB to 3.33’08 at age 32 and represented his country at the Nanjing world indoor Championchips as well as at the Tokyo WCh .
