The week it was / national champs in Belgium & Italy

Many athletes had one of their most important weekends of the year: National Championships!

In Belgium, two Wings for Athletes runners had a golden day:

Clément Deflandre (picture above, with club mate Rémi Schyns) won his third national titel after 2018 and 2020 over 3000m steeple with a solid 8.41.

Lisa Rooms dominated the 5000m women race in bad weather conditions with good 15.51. Big thankx to Chloé Herbiet who paced Lisa almost till half-way and who managed to finish as runner-up (cf. podium picture below).

Arnaud Collard came 8th in the 5000m final.

Our friends from Italy also had a successful national championships WE in Molfetta.

Jacopo Di Marchi run a perfect tactical race and could close with the fastest last lap, to win his first national title over 5000m. Ahmed Ouhda came 8th.

In the highly competitive 1500m race, both 3.35 „Wings for Athletes“ runners Mohad Abdikadar Sheik Ali and Joao Bussotti Neves had to fight with two runners of 3.33 and 3.34 level. No surprise: the PB order was respected, as Mohad won bronze and Joao came 4th!

Also Joao’s partner Giulia Aprile just missed the medal, finishing 4th in the 5000m women race. Federica Zanne came 11th.

There was also some road action on Saturday night, in the flat streets of Berlin: German Samuel Fitwi tested himself out of full marathon training with a very good 28.34 as runner-up of the City Night Berlin. Quite promising for his upcoming attempt at the classical distance in the same city!
